Ayurveda is founded on the concept of three doshas (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha) that govern bodily functions and five elements (Pancha Mahabhutas) that compose all matter. According to the Charaka Samhita, health is achieved when these elements are in balance.
The core difference lies in Ayurveda's holistic approach to wellness. While modern medicine often treats symptoms individually, Ayurveda addresses the root cause by considering the patient's entire constitution (prakriti). This is outlined in the Sushruta Samhita [1.15.48], which emphasizes treating the whole person rather than isolated conditions.
Scientific research has begun validating many Ayurvedic concepts, particularly in areas of preventive medicine and stress management. For instance, the effectiveness of herbs like Ashwagandha and Turmeric has been confirmed through clinical studies.
