The concept of '33 crore gods' is a misinterpretation of ancient Sanskrit texts. The original phrase '33 koti' appears in the Rig Veda, where 'koti' means 'types' or 'categories', not 'crore' (10 million).
These 33 categories consist of 12 Adityas (solar deities), 11 Rudras (aspects of Shiva), 8 Vasus (natural elements), and 2 Ashwins (divine twins). This categorization represents different aspects of natural and cosmic forces. The misunderstanding arose when 'koti' was later interpreted as the numerical value 'crore', leading to the inflated figure of 330 million deities.
